SMALL
Rule #1 High Na+
- Diabetes Insipidus (DI)
- The body excretes massive amounts of clear urine, removing vast amounts of fluid.
Rule #2 Low Na+
- Syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone (SIADH)
- Water retiention
- Addison’s disease
- Psychogenic polydipsiahe
- client cannot stop drinking water
- Meds (Diuretic)
- Spironolactone (Retain K+ but loss water and Na+)
- Hydrochlorothiazide (Retain Ca+ but loss water and Na+)
- when used for nephrogenic DI, it can increase the proximal sodium and water reabsorption, thereby reducing the urine output.
